Journey of Kolping In India

1962
Introduced

Karl Konermann & Ingolf Grabow from Germany had facilitated, founding of the first Kolping Family in India, at Worli in Mumbai.

1977

George Rodriguez, the president of the Kolping Family, Worli enabled collaboration with the Kolping International, Germany which led Kolping Family at Worli to form a Fishing cooperative.

1979

After familiarising the functioning of Kolping Society in the Archdiocese of Paderborn, Germany, Fr. Paul Pallipadan facilitated formations of 7 Kolping Groups in the Diocese of Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.

1980

Fr.Jose Akkarakaran introduced the Kolping’s works among the participants of the Work Camp held at Aloor, Kerala.

He started Kolping work among young men from 5 different dioceses of Kerala. Later in the same year, Fr. Jose Akkarakaran established Kolping Families in 9 dioceses in Kerala, 5 Dioceses in Andhra Pradesh and 12 Dioceses in Tamil Nadu.

Educational works, social actions, sewing and typing courses for girls and work assignments were the major activities.

1981

Heinrich Festing, the first General Praeses of the Kolping International, Germany visited Kolping Families in India from 23rd February to 9th March 1981, accompanied by the Augsburg Diocesan Praeses Fr. Rudolf Geisenberger.

Msgr. Heinrich Festing formally inaugurated the National Kolping Society of India on 1st March 1981. This became the first National Kolping Society in Asia.

Fr. Jose Akkarakaran served was the National Director of Kolping Society of India from 1981 to 1989.

1989

Fr. Victor Santiago was unanimously elected as National Director. The Kolping India National Office was shifted to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

1991

Kolping India was registered under Trust Act

2000

The Kolping activities was expanded to Bangalore Diocese in Karnataka State with BMSSS as a new project partner.

2007

Kolping India National Centre constructed at Velachery was inaugurated on 15th January 2007 by Msgr. Axel Werner, the General Praeses of Kolping International. The National Office started functioning from its own premises from July 2007.

2009

Fr. Antony Raj was elected as the National Director and Mr. Paulraj as National President.

2010

Msgr.Axel Werener, the General Praeses of International Kolping Society (IKS) launched the Kolping Disaster Relief Endowment Fund (KDREF) on March 3, 2010.

2014

On October 30, 2014 in the presence of Dr.Markus Demele, General Secretary, Kolping International. Fr.Antony Raj was elected for the second term as National Director and Mr. P. Ramesh from Guntur Diocesan Kolping was elected as the National President for a term of five years. Began Partnership with Sultanpet Diocese & Sultanpet Social Service Society.

2015

A permanent Herbal Exhibition developed by Kolping India at Keezhambi, Kancheepuram was inaugurated by Msgr. Ottmar Dillenburg, General Praeses, Kolping International.

2018

Kolping India expanded its activities to 6 new regions - Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Eluru, Kurnool and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana States and Neyyattinkara in Kerala States.

Kolping India Herbal and Pasumai Thottam at Mangalpadi, Kancheepuram was inaugurated by Dr. Markus Demele, General Secretary, Kolping International.

2019

Dr. Maria Soosai was unanimously elected as the National Director and Mr. Cyril V.T as National President for Kolping India in the presence of Msgr. Ottmar Dillenburg, General Praeses, Kolping International at the election held on 27th October 2019.

2023

The First Floor of Kolping India Home : Adolph Kolping Resource Centre at Kancheepuram was blessed by Most Rev.Dr. Amalraj, Bishop of Udagamandalam and named as Kolping India Home: Adolph Kolping Resource Centre by Msgr. Christoph Huber, the General Praeses – Kolping International, Germany.

National Level Conference on “Conservation of Nature for Sustainable and Healthy Human Life” organised on 22nd July 2023 at Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. Over 300 participants representing environmental activists, social workers, representatives from NGO sector, academicians, research scholars and Kolping Association members across Tamil Nadu participated.
As a follow-up of the National Level Conference The Honourable Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Mrs. P. Geetha Jeevan launched the Palmyra plantation drive initiated by Kolping India on 23rd July 2023.
Dr. Maria Soosai, the National Director of Kolping India, was unanimously elected to the International Executive Board of Kolping International in the Kolping International Board of Directors Meeting held on 29th September 2023 in Bensberg, Germany.

2024

A project for training and placement of Indian Nurses in Germany Health Care Industry was initiated under a tripartite partnership model between Kolping India – Kolping Paderborn – Kolping International.

Dr. Maria Soosai was unanimously re-elected for second term of office as National Director for another 5 years. Mr. Abraham Reddy from Warangal Kolping Region was elected unopposed as National President at the election held on 10th December 2024 at Chennai.
